Along this route, we'll explore the wonders of Vila Velha State Park, where we'll be surprised by the rock formations sculpted by time, followed by the thrilling journey to the majestic Guartelá Canyon, where we'll be enveloped by the grandeur of the cliffs and the serenity of its surroundings. Welcome to this journey of discovery and connection with nature!

The Vila Velha State Park is made up of three Geological Sites: Sandstones, Furnas and Lagoa Dourada, which are part of the itinerary that will be carried out with local guides. Considered one of the most important Geological Sites and Environmental Tourism Centres in the country, the Park has attractions dating back 340 million years and its rock formations are reminiscent of a medieval city, with its ruined castles and towers.

At the time, the region was covered by a sheet of ice. As the ice melted, the material was abandoned in place. After the return of normal erosion and the thickening of the water in the streams along the glacial front, these deposits were reworked, giving rise to the sandstones of Vila Velha. The transformation of the rock has not ended. Vila Velha is exposed to the action of the atmosphere, subjected to the severe erosion of rainwater and the work of the winds. The formations suggest the most varied figures. Camel, Indian, bride, bottle, boot, sphinx and cup are some of them.

The Furnas are located 3 kilometres from the Vila Velha sandstones and are large diameter circular craters that appear isolated in the vastness of the fields. Also known as Caldeirões do Inferno (Hell's Cauldrons), there are three of them, the vertical walls reach a depth of over 100 metres and the volume of water is approximately half that depth.

The Golden Lagoon is a natural aquarium with crystal-clear waters that is home to thousands of fish. Called just "Lagoa" in the past, Furna, which was silted up with sediment brought in by the Guarabiroba River, is over 11,170 years old and is the oldest in the park, so it carries in its sediment the history of five different hydrological periods.

The Guartelá Canyon is located on the Campos Gerais plateau, between the municipalities of Tibagi and Castro. Carved by the Iapó River, it is the longest canyon in Brazil at 30 km, but its depth reaches a maximum of 450 metres. It is not a canyon with vertical cliffs, but it does offer beautiful natural landscapes.
